PCT LASH-Kennedy Meadows

Post Date:

The trail from Echo Lakes to Sonora Pass was a tough stretch for me. It was great to see Eva in Tahoe, but I missed her as soon as we said goodbye, and I saw very few people on trail, which added to my loneliness. The weather was also cold and windy and there were times I was hiking in all my clothes to stay warm.

Beautiful granite wall

I did my best to pick campsites that are sheltered from the wind, but one night it was so windy the noise made it difficult to sleep. I met another hiker who said he uses earplugs to help sleep in the wind. I need to add a pair of earplugs to my gear list!

If shoes had eyes

I reached Sonora Pass/Hwy 108 at 8:15 am on Saturday September 5th and quickly got a hitch to Kennedy Meadows from a tattoo artist from Reno who was on her way to visit her dad in Strawberry. Her dad is section hiking the PCT and she was excited to tell her dad she met another PCT hiker!

Trail near Sonora Pass

Kennedy Meadows has everything a hiker could want: showers, laundry, a restaurant, a store, dorm rooms, and a shuttle back to the trail. When I arrived I was tired, hungry and thinking about quitting, but after a big breakfast, a hot shower and a whole box of red vines, I decided to hike on!

Thanks for following along!
